The house and carriage house were built in 1924
in an English Tudor Cottage and Craftsman combination of architectural styles.
It was built by the Reese family, but was known for years as “the Thorton
home” because the Thortons lived here from 1941 until we bought it in
1992. We have 19 acres in this property that extends along either side
of Cedar Creek. We keep about 3 acres in gardens, lawns and orchards and
have over 200 rose bushes- many of them are antique varieties. For most
of the years we have lived here we have been able to irrigate our gardens
from the creek- a definite blessing in West Texas. You are free
to wander at your leisure and enjoy any of our outdoor areas. The
view from the pergola is lovely, especially in the evening. Often
the sunsets are spectacular. Other outdoor areas you might enjoy
are the ponds in the lower garden, the vegetable garden and orchard down
past the barn, and the old rustic chapel past that. Beyond that, there
are the 14 Stations of the Cross with spots to sit and reflect or meditate.
The blue willow is named after the china- a favorite of mine when I was
a child.
